There is an odd...epidemic of sorts. People of all ages, health, and mentality have been targeted. No one is safe.
The victims who contract the "virus" begin to hear a faint static-like hum. A noise so miniscule that it usually isn't noticed until the symptoms are well into the second stage.
The static becomes deafening. So much so that the victim becomes unable to hear anything outside his or her head. The volume steadily increases. The victim usually goes mad at this point.
At stage three, the victim falls into a coma for an undetermined period of time.
Plot A strange disease of sorts has roused itself from the depths of the unknown and nonexistent. Fittingly dubbed "Static", it has become a worldwide pandemic in an alarmingly short period of time. The world's leading scientists and doctors are at a loss. The only thing that they can do is to quarantine the infected and hope for the best.
Not working.
Despite the various measures, countermeasures, retro-measures taken, the disease is still spreading. Like a solvent eating its way across exposed flesh. Spreading decay in its wake.
The worst thing is, no one knows how it's spread, where it comes from, or whether it's even a disease at all...
Character Sheet Name: Age: Gender: Appearance: Etc:
Rules Modern-day...is the time that the story is situated in. Mary Sues and Gary Lues will be brutally hacked apart and duly thrown into the nearest charnel-house. Humans only...please. It's no fun when you're regenerating when everyone else is a bleeding, moribund wreck. Use some form of OOC/BIC Semi-lit.

Name: Scarletta Williams
Alias: Scarlet. She hates her full name 'Scarletta'.
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Appearance: She has chocolate brown eyes with flaming red hair that is often unkempt and messy. Her hair is shoulder length. Scarlet has a slim build, she's skinnier then most. However, she has an almost unnoticeable line of muscle in her arms, that can bench a maximum weight of 300 pounds.
Etc: After losing one parent in her life to the static, she has to keep her slowly dying father alive. Her brother is still young, and she does all she can to keep his 13 year old form from getting sick or dying from starvation. Her dad's condition gets worse everyday, and he will be passing on soon. Scarlet must work and feed her family as best as she can, with a low waging job at a fast food joint. She is very generous when it comes to family, making her hostile when she meets strangers. You may easily count her ribs caused by her genorosity of small portions of food to her younger brother and weakening father. Scarlet is a rather messy person, but is clean and cunning in personality.

Name: Ari Cook
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Appearance: Ari has seemingly always unkempt dark brown hair, olive green eyes, tanned skin, and prominent cheek bones. He's five foot nine, and on the fit side, somewhere between skinny and muscular. He always seems to be wearing the same type of clothing; Vans skater shoes, old jeans, concert t-shirts, button-up shirts, and wifebeaters. Ari always seems to have some sort of injury because of his tendency to crash big time while skateboarding or biking, and when this story starts it happens to be his cheek scratched up and a bloody looking cut on his forehead.
Etc: Ari is a hardcore boarder and biker. He can usually be found hanging around the skate-park or riding around town. He's never without a bike or a board. Ari's family is kinda screwed up. His parents are drug addicts, and even though they share their stash (on occasion) with him, they also are on the abusive side. Ari is laid-back, with passing school grades that scrape along and all his time spent on music, boarding, and caring for his little brother, Kyle. Kyle (he's nine) is the only thing Ari really has to worry bout, and he does worry about him. A lot, actually.

The streets were lighted with the sunset as Scarletta called her little brother to come back home. Scarletta, she hated that name. Most just called her Scarlet, as she prefered it to be.
Seeing her little brother bolting down the road towards her, she noticed the stray kid sprinting in his wake. She braced herself, just in case this kid was chasing down her brother to give him trouble. Scarlet would punch his lights out if he lay one finger on her little brother that she had spent years protecting. They ran up, Scarlet tensing up a bit at the stranger.
She looked at her brother, "Now who is this, Tempest?" Scarlet had a steel in her eyes, her voice sounding cautious. Tempest looked up with a smile, "He's my new friend that I met!" She relaxed a bit, "Okay, but it's time to have dinner, you're going to have to tell him good night." Her brother whined, "Awwww, but we just started hanging out, after dinner?" Scarlet shook her head, "No, you need to save your strength and not burn all your calories. We don't have enough to feed you for that." He whined again, but she just kept shaking her head. She winced at the way his ribs stuck out a bit as well, just a bit more boney then she was. Scarlet wanted the disease that had ruined their lives to stop, to go die in a hole. The static had killed her mother and they were trying to keep their sickened father alive.
She directed Tempest back inside, making him eat his dinner and wash up for bed. It was only eight, but the kid needed to save his energy.

"Five to one, baby, one to five......" Ari sang quietly to himself, earbuds in, as he pulled off a simple trick; Ollie-ing off of a curb and landing in the street. He kicked the ground, boarding towards where he last saw Kyle, his little brother. After some time and many crummy blocks on the street, he finally came to a stop when he saw his brother. Kyle was standing there, waving goodbye to a kid walking into a house. Ari cupped his hands together, and shouted loudly, maybe hoping to piss some people off. “Kyle! Get over here!”
His brother visibly drooped, his shoulders slumping slightly. He waved goodbye one more time, then sprinted over to Ari, his face downcast. “Did you bring my board?”
Ari shrugged the backpack off his shoulders and let Kyle retrieve his board, which he promptly rode off on, expecting Ari to catch up. Ari grinned, zipping the pack and taking off after his brother.
They raced for a bit on the way back to his house, and Ari even attempted a few tricks, pulling some off but smashing his face into the ground on another. It was dark when the two reached his house, but the lights where on.
And shouts came from the house. Ari frowned. “Kyle, go out back. I’ll meet you there.” His brother trudged off with his board, and Ari walked up to the house, opening the door to a mad frenzy of angry shouts and violence.

She had a night of dream-filled sleep, and an early wake-up call. Scarlet was always waking up early, she liked to get to work and take the 4 A.M.- 2:00 P.M. shift to be able to have some freetime in the afternoons. The clothes in her wardrobe were plain, and there were few.
Getting dressed, she packed her backpack and trekked outside to her bike. She got on and prepared to go to work, knowing that today would be a long, boring day as usual. --------
As she had predicted, the day had been boring, very boring indeed. Although, her heart raced with excitement to the task at hand. Scarlet had saved up enough money for a skateboard a while ago, after funding from her grandmother before the old lady had passed on. She snatched the board out of her bag and ran to the skate park, her bike parked and locked.
Jumping eagerly onto the skateboard, she didn't pay attention to the other people. Her eyes focused on the rail as she ollied onto it, easily manuevering a grind and a 50/50. Scarlet came to the end of the rail, and did a pressflip off the end of it. She was on solid concrete for a moment before entering the slanted walls of the bowl.
This was what she loved to do in her free time, it helped her escape all her worries and mental anguishes. Scarlet didn't even pay notice to all the people she didn't know around her, even though some envied her fluent tricks and movements.
This was her paradise.

Ari was sleeping in the skate park. Last night had been rough; his parents had both been high off their asses and Ari had argued with them, evidence was a dark purplish bruise along his shoulder blade where his dad had pushed him down into a coffee table. After that Ari gathered food and blankets and locked himself in his room, opening the window so Kyle could come through. He let Kyle wear his earbuds so the kid could block out the shouts and screaming, and he himself had been up all night. He was passed out on a bench in the skate park, using his back pack as his pillow.
Kyle was zooming around on his board, flipping tricks and crashing but still getting up. Recently Ari had taught him to drop end, something the base of most tricks but pretty difficult. He boarded into the skate bowl, feeling the air rush past his face. Suddenly an orange blur raced past him, and he recognized Tempest’s sister. Needing to know where Tempest was, he attempted to chase her down, but she was zoned out, focused on boarding. “Hey! Hey! Where’s Tempest? HEY!”

Scarlet was in the zone, something very sacred and fragile. This kid just broke the zone.
She snapped out of her trance and lost her balance in the middle of a grind, falling onto her face. Seeing as the only thing she could afford was a helmet, her elbows and knees left skid marks on the concrete, giving her some major scrapes.
"SHIT!! Ow." Scarlet got up and dusted herself off, "Who the hell do you think you are?!!?!?!? What the fu- Oh, it's you. That kid that was hanging out with my brother."
She stopped yelling at him and calmed down, realizing what he had asked, "OH, Tempest, he should be here in a little while. I told him to come to the skate park around 3."

After about five minutes of waiting, Kyle frowned and crossed his arms. "Tempest is taking foreverrrrrr," He put his whine-face on, and pulled at Scarlet's sleeve. "Since we are just standing here," He didn't pick up Scarlet's I-WANT-TO-SKATE-NOW look as he tried to pull her towards the occupied (by his brother) bench. "You should meet Ari!"
Kyle jabbed Ari in the ribs, making him double over, eyes wide open and a 'whaaaaat' look on his face. "What the hell Kyle!" Ari growled, showing anger at his brother, something he rarely did. He didn't notice Scarlet, and pushed Kyle's shoulder, making him run into Scarlet.

She huffed slightly when Kyle pulled her away from her skating, not catching on to her death stare. Kyle was dragging her over to what she assumed to be his older brother, and elbowed him in the ribs promptly after he arrived next to him. The older boy shot up and glared at Kyle, his eyes wide and his tone angry.
He didn't seem to notice Scarlet's presence, but whatever. Slightly pushing his younger brother back in anger, Kyle ran straight into her unexpectedly, taking her by surprize. She almost fell back and growled at him slightly, punching him roughly in the arm.
"What the hell man?!" She gritted out, glaring at the younger one.

Ari reacted to this instantaneously, pushing himself off the bench and maneuvering Kyle behind him in one movement. Violence against Kyle had a direct link to his anger, even if it was minimal and just messing around. “Hey,” He said a warning tone in his voice. He was wide awake now, even if he did have sort of tired air around him. “Back up.”
Kyle looked surprised, and he pushed past Ari, something he never did, and stood next to Scarlet. “Ari, cool it bro. This is Scarlet! She’s my friends sister,” Ari and Kyle shared a glance, and Ari nodded.
He relaxed, letting an easy grin take over his face. “Sorry chica, I’m used to strangers being confrontational, so you just get used to being defensive. “ Ari took his Ipod from his pocket, plugging his headphones in and slinging them around his neck for later use. “Name’s Ari.”

She sighed and casually swayed a hip to the side, her arms dangling limply, "It's fine, he just made me leave skid marks on the concrete. He broke the zone, so I was rather irratated with him."
Putting on a small smile that had the faint traces of a smirk, she turned around at the familiar footsteps of her younger brother. He arrived at their small group, and she captured him into a rough headlock that seemed to be rather masculine for a girl of her stature.
"Where have you been kid?!" Scarlet teasingly bit out, ruffling the top of his hair violently. Tempest appeared to nearly drop his skateboard, but held onto it.
"AHHH!! I give, I give!!!" She released him, the smirk prominent now, "Sorry... I was just fooling around with the gaurd at the junkyard. He's fun to mess with, especially since he's always grumpy."
Scarlet snorted and shooed him off, "Alright, whatever. Go on and skateboard to your heart's content now." He laughed and smiled, jumping onto his skateboard and trying to manuever some harder tricks she had taught him. She turned around and silently inspected the wounds on her elbows and knees. No good. Deciding that she might want to let them scab over at least, she sat down on the bench where Ari had previously sat, leaving room for him if he wanted it.

Ari resisted a smile. He had overreacted; it was obvious she loved her brother like he did Kyle. Tempest boarded off, and Kyle snagged Ari’s, following quickly. Kyle wasn’t able to pull off as many tricks as Tempest was, but he was trying, and that suited Ari. Wow, he was a poor sap. Everybody needed an outlet, and he hoped that Kyle would go towards thing better for him, like boarding or biking and not drugs like their parents.
And him, but Kyle didn’t know that. He never would let his brother see him as low as that.
“Scraped yourself up pretty badly, girl.” He observed her slight bleeding from her elbows and knees, and shrugged a bit. “But it could be worse. You wanna band-aid?” Ari chuckled, and sorted through his pack, coming to a box of band-aids with cartoon characters on them.

She laughed a little, "Yeah, thanks. Your brother and mine get along really well. I wish that I could always allow Tempest time like this....." Scarlet stopped, realizing that she was letting her feeling show way too much. Basically spurting out her emotions to someone she had just met too? God she was an idiot.
Taking a bandaid quietly, she removed the bands from the adhesive and put it over her worst scrape, on her right elbow. She had a minor one on her chin, but she wouldn't worry about that. Scarlet quickly applied bandaids to the rest of the areas that they were needed.
She decided on taking off her helmet, letting her hair fall loosely, but not without random bits of it sticking out messily from the helmet.

"Hmmmm, yeah." Ari heard Scarlet catch herself, hesitate somewhat, but he shrugged it off. "Kyle needs to be a kid. He's always thrown in situations where he isn't able to be a kid, so I make sure he can. You know, cause I'm a pansy like that." He stifled a yawn, then stood up, shaking his head a bit. "Damn. I'm going to pass out." Ari rubbed his eyes, and then took his wallet out, checking for money. "I need something to wake me up."
"Hey, do you want anything? I'm gonna run over to Circle-K." He hopped on his bike, coasting over to Kyle, who told him to get him something, Tempest too. Ari pedaled over to Scarlet, stopping next to her.
