She nodded in agreement, "I need to grab something for dinner."
Flipping over her skateboard with her foot, she yelled at Tempest that she was going with Ari and put one foot on the skateboard. Scarlet glanced over at her brother, he seemed to be doing fine, she probably didn't have to worry for him at all.
Promptly glancing at Ari, she pondered, "Are you ready?"

Ari nodded, and they were to Circle-K in a few minutes, since it was only down a few blocks. Ari bought everyone what they wanted, and himself a bottle of Dr. Pepper, because sugar always helped keep him awake. "Quick stop," Ari grinned, riding in the road near the sidewalk. He paused for a moment, sitting on his bike, as he twisted the lid off the bottle, winking at a very non-amused Scarlet. "Ahhhhh, 23 flavors, gotta love i-"
The screech of brakes are what saved Ari's life. He turned around, saw the danger, and ducked off his bike. He was still next to it when the scar slammed into it. The bike must've made it swerve somewhat because he was thrown aside by the side of the car and onto the concrete. The car, unable to stop, slammed into a dumpster next to the Circle-K building and came to a fiery halt. Something in it must've sparked, because the engine combusted, exploded, if you will.
Ari groaned, rolling over. "Shit."

Scarlet was sitting nonchalantly on the curb, next to Ari and his bike, until she too heard the brakes. Rolling off the curb so quickly that she feel into the ditch behind the sidwalk, she landed uncomfortably on rocks. She heard the roar of a fire and then an explosion. Her eyes widened and she crawled out of the ditch with a pained groan and looked around for Ari.
He was on the sidewalk a couple paces down from her, and groaned like she had when she had fallen on the jutting rocks, "What the fuck was that?"
Her voice would've given the image of calm, but the rushed words gave it more of a freaked out kind of vibe. She crawled completely onto the concrete and rubbed her back in pain.

“Fuck if I know!” Fear put a tremor in his voice, and he scrambled up, holding his side. He stumbled over to the car, in which flames were burning, but they had calmed down a bit. The driver’s side of the car was charred, black and smoldering. A sick feeling burned in the pit of his stomach, even though he’d seen worse before.
It didn’t look like anyone could survive something like that, but he heard a feeble voice above the flickering of the flames.
“Help…”
Ari jerked open the passenger door and a woman stumbled out, hanging onto him. She was bloody and broken, and deranged, a wild look in her eyes. A car crash will do that to you. “Help me…”
Confusion. “T- The ambulance is coming,” He said, but she grabbed onto the collar of his shirt, jerking him towards her with surprisingly good strength.
“Help me!!! The noise is getting worse!”
“What?”
“ The noise!” The woman fell to her knees on the ground, holding her head.

Scarlet stared at the lady with a strange look, the memories of this seeming all too much like how her mother died...... Complaints of a buzzing noise in the head, psychotic, deranged behavior......
*Flashback*
Her mother screeched and dove at her with a knife, her sanity long lost to the noise filling her head. It barely skimmed her arm, the warm blood trickling down slightly.
"Mommy, please!!! Calm down!" warm tears streaked down her face, and a scared, young Tempest hid in the corner. There dad was at the hospital, being treated for his illness that was sure to kill him off some day. Her mother lunged at her again, the wild look in her eyes frightening and unsettling.
That's when she did the thing that made Tempest stop her. The only way possible to stop a lunatic this far into it.
The woman lunged at her own 9 year old son, nearly stabbing him. The blade would've landed in his chest if Scarlet hadn't jumped in front of him, the knife digging into her back. Blood started to well up even more, and Scarlet herself had to turn to primal instincts to survive.
Jumping onto the crazed lady, she pinned her down as best she could, the flailing knife skimming her wrists a couple of times. She freed one arm for the shortest amount of time she could allow, and pushed her mother's neck and head to the side, forcefully. A loud snap echoed around the room, and her mother's movements ceased.
Scarlet stood up and the blood gushed out of her book. Tempest ran over to help her, even though he shouldn't even have been here. A six year old didn't need to see this.
She blacked out with blood loss, collapsing on the ground.
*Flashback End*
Scarlet blinked at the derranged woman flailing on the ground, her heart racing. She was trying to keep her cool, but she was freaking out.

Ari's breathing was fast paced as the lady suddenly stopped. After a few minutes he hesitantly put his hand on her shoulder and rolled her over. Her eyes were wide open, her jaw slack, but she was still breathing, slowly, but still breathing. He dragged his eyes up from the woman's and met Scarlet's gaze. She looked pretty calm on the outside, but her eyes were wide and scared like an animal trapped in a corner.
Suddenly the blare of police sirens broke the eerie silence. Ari jumped up, despite his pain, and hopped on his bike after trashing the broken garbage bag of food. "Scarlet...." He said. "We've got to scram. I've heard of this...they'll take us away."
He tried to imagine Kyle living without him, or vice versa. It wasn't a pretty scene. "Grab your board and let's scram."

Scarlet shook her head, clearing her jumbled, scared thoughts, and grabbed her board that was waiting on the curb. She picked up the bag of groceries for her family, and pushed off, for fear of getting taken away by them....
Cruising down the street at a rapid pace, she saw the oncoming police car turn around the corner, and had fast enough reflexes to dive into the ditch next to the sidewalk, avoiding the policeman's line of sight just in time. The ditch was a bit less rocky right here, but she still felt it bruise her knees at the solid impact of her kneecap against a couple rocks. Cursing under her breath, she looked up a little, out of the ditch. She looked around for Ari, wondering where he was.

The police car turned the corner, but Ari had already ducked down, out of sight. He was laying down in the ditch, belly on the ground and his bike laying next to him, hopefully all the way concealed. It hurt laying on his stomach on the ground, because that car had clipped him but had still caught him a good one.
After a few minutes he propped himself up on his elbows and peeked over the edge of the ditch. The convoy of cop cars were around the wreckage, people all around the gas station, talking to the crowd and such. Ari had a sick feeling in the pit of his stomach, and he got up, brushing the dirt of his clothes and then looking around for Scarlet.
He spotted her aways down in the ditch, and waved at her. "Hey, let's go."

She nodded in reply to him, and stood up out of the ditch. The skateboard being hugged to her chest dropped out of her arms, onto the sidewalk. Stepping out of the ditch, she took a step onto the board and continued on her way again. Scarlet thought to herself for a few moments as she coasted on.
God she hoped Tempest wasn't freaking out because she wasn't back yet. God she hoped he wasn't being hassled by some nightly skate park thug. God she hoped he was okay.
Scarlet realized she probably worried way too much, and attempted to drop her thoughts, slowing down a bit and waiting for Ari. She whipped her head back to see how far behind she had left him.

"Ahhh..." Ari muttered, holding his chest. He moved his bike out of the ditch, and then began on his merry way. He was going pretty slow, but when he saw Scarlet turn around to see where he was, he sped up, coasting alongside her and keeping pace. They were almost to the skate park, and he figured Kyle had forgotten about him.
That usually happened when Kyle was preoccupied, he forgot about most things. Ari wished that happened to him. He wished that he could just ride away his problems. Biking, boarding, and music helped, but it didn't entirely rid his head of them. So he drank and he got high sometimes, because doing so always blew away everything and replaced his thoughts with a sort of mindless happiness. He always made sure Kyle was in good hands, and that he never, ever, let him see him that way.
They arrived at the skate park, and Kyle and Tempest were skating there hearts out. He glanced at Scarlet, and then he rode quickly over to his little brother.

Scarlet kept pace with Ari the whole way, wanting to go faster for frantic fear for her brother. Maybe it was the recent memories dug up that kept her this on edge, this stressed out. It was only blocks, but it had seemed like miles before she reached her brother. As the calm little voice in the back of her head had reasoned, he was fine. She still couldn't help but feel stressed and close to snapping point though.
Standing where Ari had left her, board absently in one hand, she decided to take her stress out. Scarlet went and sat on the bench, one that was more shady, and set her board down. She took her free arm and bit into her wrist as hard as she could, her whole body tensing up. Her other hand reached for the assaulted arm, and clawed it's fingernails down her shoulder, rubbing her skin raw.
As she injured her own body, the stress seemed to ebb away eventually, and she was just left with the dull aching pain.

Ari talked to Kyle, told him that he'd crashed and smashed up the groceries as an excuse, and then walked his bike over to the bench Scarlet was sitting on and slouched down, tired as what. He heaved a sigh, then rolled his head over to Scarlet, glancing at her with half-lidded eyes.
He suddenly noticed she was bleeding, and had scratches all along the side of her arm. Ari didn't say anything, just searched around in his bag and came out with a handful of band-aids. He glanced up at her, and then applied a bunch of them to the general area. After a while he did say something though. "That's how you take care of your stress? I'm not going to say jack shit about it, because I do just the same, in a different way." He shrugged a bit, and then zoned out, popping his earbuds in.

Scarlet furrowed her eyebrows when he noticed her injuries, but relaxed as he spoke, explaining he also took his stress out inappropriately. Taking a bandaid, she stuck it on the couple bloody spots on her wrist. It was a mystery to her about how her little brother never seemed to notice her strange, unexplainable cuts on her forearms. Who knew, maybe he did, but never bothered to call her out on it.
Simply nodding, she sat back a bit too, and watched her little brother skate with said friend. She looked over at Ari, "Thanks." She mumbled it, looking back to her brother almost immediately.

Ari didn’t hear what Scarlet said when she turned slightly towards him, but he assumed it was thanks and gave a reassuring smile back, since she looked pretty hesitant about it. He stretched his arms up, wincing at the pain in his chest when he did so. After a few minutes of slouching comfortably, he stared up at the sky, wondering whatever-the-hell that woman meant when she was screaming about ‘the noise’.
Not having a TV at his house, he had to resort to mooching off the store that sold them for his news. He hadn’t heard anything lately about any diseases involving ‘noises’, but then again this was the first occurrence in his town so he wouldn’t have been paying much attention. He tried to imagine something like the noise the lady was talking about take over his mind. It probably would be like his headphones on full blast except a bit worse; allowing no other noises to get through. Or maybe it would just be a constant buzz, like the static on a television. He let a chill pass through him at the thought, then glanced over to where Kyle and Tempest where skating around.

She set her sight downward at the ground, slumping over to where her elbows were on her knees and it looked like her hands were over her ears in attempt to block out noise. Her eyes having a downcast shade to them with her hanging loosely down, Scarlet's thoughts bunched up in her head. She was debating whether or not to tell Ari of why she was so scared, why she was so stressed. One side her said to tell him, reasoning that it would help her rid of some stress. Though, the other side shot her down, saying that he would think she was a freak for killing her mother.
Deciding that she could leave out the killing part, she took a chance. Scarlet turned towards him, "Do you know why I was so scared earlier?"
That was a rather stupid question, she didn't think that he could read what had been going on in her mind at the time.
